๐2024 Reading Bingo๐
All the books I would like to read this year in Japanese ๐ฏ๐ต, Chinese ๐จ๐ณ and French ๐ซ๐ท
Hello again!
Since my to-be-read list is getting increasingly long and the physical books I own just keep piling up, I have decided to create my own 2024 reading bingo after getting inspired by the ones posted at
โs Discord server. ๐The main objective I want to accomplish by following this bingo is to โget ridโ of a big chunk of my priority, owned books. It is similar in concept to a #NoNewThingsDecember except that, since I will be going to Japan in February, I cannot keep the โbuying no new booksโ promise this time๐คฃ. It is a promise or โcontractโ I establish with myself to finish all the physical novels that I own as of January 2024 so I feel less guilty about getting more when I visit Japan. ๐
โจ What it looks like โจ
โ๏ธ How I made it โ๏ธ
The process to create this was quite simple.
As a first step, I thought about what my 2024 reading goal for novels and non-fiction books should be. I opted for 12 books in total (one per month) to be realistic, knowing that I already have a good start on some non-fiction books and that some of these are short.
For Japanese and French, I looked at all the books I own in my bookshelves, as well as those on my Notion withing the priority โNextโ tag. For Chinese, I checked out the โBeginnerโ and โLower Intermediateโ titles listed on The Heavenly Pathโs web novel page.
Then, to keep things flexible for myself, I came up with several potential reads for most of the categories. This gives me some room so I do not feel completely restricted, while helping me meet my goal of finishing books on my priority, owned list.
Finally, I used a combination of PowerPoint and Photoshop to put it all together.
๐Candidate books๐
Besides the beautiful image of my dog Luke surrounded by some books I read during my childhood, there are a total of 12 cases to cross out in this bingo. The candidates I came up for each case are:
็พใใ่กจ็ด๏ผthe first book I will finish this year will be ้ญ้็ฅๅธซ๏ผ, a delightful read that I cannot recommend enough. The cover is beautiful, so it fits this category perfectly. ๐
ใทใชใผใบๆ็ตไฝ๏ผthe next book I will read will obviously be ้ญ้็ฅๅธซ๏ผ , the last book of the series and which will leave a gaping hole in my heart after finishing it. ๐ญ
ใในใใชใผ๏ผhere we have some very popular works with positive reviews from several people on Instagram: ๆน่ or ่ชฐใๅ่ ใๆฎบใใใ.
ใฉใใ๏ผๅพๅฎฎใฎใซใฉใน๏ผ. The anime, despite its limited budget, really made me want to read this series, so I got all volumes except the ones that were covered by the show (I did not want to kill my motivation by making myself read two books about things I already knew).
ใใณใใฃใฏใทใงใณ๏ผbesides the two books I talked about on my previous post, ๆผขๅญใฎ่ชๆบๅณ้ andใไผใใๅใใไผธใณใ! 12ๆญณใพใงใซ็ฅใฃใฆใใใใ่ชๅฝๅๅณ้ใปๅณ่งฃ, I included an extra candidate, ใฏใใใฆใฎ็ฅ้ใจไปๆ , to finally understand the difference between Shinto and Buddhist temples. ๐
ๅญไพๅใ๏ผใใฉใๅฐๆฟๅญฆ ใชใๅฐๆฟๅญฆใๅฟ ่ฆใชใฎใใใใใๆฌ or ๆฐๅญใงใใใ! ใใฉใSDGs ๅฐ็ใใใพใฉใใช็ถๆ ใใใใๆฌ, both about politics.
ไฝๅนดๅ่ฒทใฃใไธๅ๏ผในใใใ่ฝใจใใใ ใใชใฎใซ (a book whose title sparked my interest) or the first volume of the series a fellow friend is writing and which I said I would read in 2022: Le voyage d'Emy: I : La forรชt Cor de Bouc.
ใใฉใณใน่ชใงไธๅ๏ผLe voyage d'Emy: I : La forรชt Cor de Bouc or its sequel, Le Voyage d'Emy: II : La paradis Ether.
้ทใ้ใฎ่ชญๆธใชในใไธๅ๏ผhere I included other novels that other fellow learners from Instagram recommended: ไธ็ใใ็ซใๆถใใใชใ, ๅฐ็ๆไบบ or ้นฟใฎ็ 1.
ๆฅๆจๆไธ๏ผfor this I went with two that I have been eyeing for a while: ใใซใฆใงใคใฎๆฃฎ or 1Q84 BOOK 1.
ใใฉใผ๏ผhere we have two books from previous categories, ๆน่ and ในใใใ่ฝใจใใใ ใใชใฎใซ, and an additional alternative that won a Horror award, ่ใฎไธใฎๅ.
ไธญๅฝ่ชใงไธๅ๏ผthe novels that seemed the most interesting at my level were: ๆ็็บข็็ธๅฆนๅฆน, ๆ็็ผๅฆๅฆ, ๆไธๆ ๆไบๆขไบ็ต้ญ or ไธไธๅฐๅฟๅ้็ฒพ็ปๅฉไบ.
And thatโs it for today! I hope you got some inspiration and reading ideas from this post ๐
If you happen to have any reading recommendations for the categories I cited, I would love to have some backups in case none of the books I listed works out ๐
See you soon with more meaningful content,
